About Woodinville Lacrosse

The Woodinville Lacrosse Club was founded in 2009 as a local 501c3 nonprofit organization with the purpose to promote & support lacrosse in Woodinville. Doing so in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of the school community. We encourage & support teamwork, discipline & respect for others that comes from participating in athletic competition. We provide financial support for the additional athletic training of our players, coaches, & for the auxiliary equipment that benefits our lacrosse teams. In order to facilitate this, Woodinville Lacrosse Club will organize social and fundraising events for players, coaches & families throughout the year. We promote enthusiastic & positive behavior at lacrosse games, which upholds the highest standards of spirit & sportsmanship. We will also act as liaison between the lacrosse teams, coaches, parents, school administration & the general public.  

Job Description

The High School Varsity Head Coach’s primary responsibility is to coach the WHS Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team according to the objectives and expectations provided by Woodinville Lacrosse Club’s (WLC) elected Board of Directors (BOD) and the Northshore School District (NSD). 

 

Board Meetings

The Coach is expected to participate in the recurring BOD meetings, present key elements of the high school program, and coordinate with the respective members of the BOD to obtain the resources and support to execute the annual high school plan. The Coach has no voting rights on the WLC Board of Directors.

Calendar

Present to the BOD a calendar during the August Board meeting that includes:

●       Start and end dates for each season (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer)

●       Registration dates for each season

●       Tournaments, Camps, Clinics, or other non-league games or events

●       Communication schedule to players, parents, and community

Operations

  • Coordinate with Northshore School District (NSD) & City of Woodinville Officials for game and practice field scheduling requirements for each season
  • Coordinate volunteers for game, practice, tournament, camp, and clinic support, utilizing the parent support of the players and the team
  • Prepare a gear and equipment needs list for the high school program
  • Coordinate with Gear and Equipment Coordinator to ensure equipment inventory is current
  • Coordinate with Uniform Coordinator to identify and fill uniform program uniform needs

Inter-Program Relations

  • Primary point of contact for WLC with Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association (WHSBLA)
  • Primary Point of Contact for WHS Athletic Program
  • Strengthen relations with WHS Athletic Dept. (Ex. Athletic Director)
  • Strengthen relations with neighboring high school lacrosse programs
  • Outreach to lacrosse programs in other areas – i.e. B.C., Oregon, Idaho, etc.

Community Development

  • Work with the WLC BOD to handle any player, parent, or coaching concerns
  • Find ways to get the high school program involved with the community of Woodinville
  • Supporting the annual Social/Auction event

Fiscal Management

  • In coordination with WLC Treasurer, prepare an annual budget by season for BOD approval
  • Present business case to the BOD for additional funding or reprioritized funding as needed

 

 

 

Coaching

Assume the role of Head Coach for the Woodinville High School Varsity Lacrosse Team, which includes overseeing the JV team

  • Prepare a coaching roster for each team at high school levels, at least three weeks in advance of each season for BOD approval (This includes assist coaches for Varsity and a JV Head Coach and assistants)
  • Ensure each coach understands expectations, relevant rules and guidelines, and safety guidelines.
  • Coach will maintain US Lacrosse (USL) Level 1 Certification for the contract period
  • Ensure that coaches have fully executed contracts and coaching prerequisites (e.g. required training) have been met, coordinating this effort with the BOD and WLC Program Director

Player Development & Welfare

  • Maintain WLC outlined health and safety guidelines, adhering to federal, state and local health authority policies as required
  • Develop and implement a coordinated player retention and growth plan
  • Implement academic expectations at the high school level
  • Develop and implement a coordinated lacrosse awareness and recruiting plan at high school level
  • Discipline players in an appropriate manner for inappropriate behavior during practices, lacrosse games and other team events, including recommendation to the WLC BOD – or other coaching staff – suspension of club privileges of players or parents for activities and behavior inconsistent with WLC objectives.  Certain instances will require BOD involvement.  
  • Directing practice and game preparation at High School Varsity level
  • Work with the WLC BOD to determine a post season tournament play strategy, If applicable
  • Schedule and run tournament team, including communication and coaching

 

General Season Commitment

The WHS Varsity Head Coach position will ebb and flow with the level of work throughout the year. A general timeline of work is provided below, but this can change depending on the needs of the team and the BOD. Compensation will be aligned with this varied level of work throughout the year.

Pre Spring Season Training (Jan-February) – This is coordinated by the HS Varsity Coach, but due to WSHBLA rules, is run by alternative coaches

Spring Season (March-May) – Full time effort by the HS Varsity Coach

Post Season Tournaments/Summer Play (June-July) – The HS Varsity Coach will work with the WLC BOD and Program Director to determine if a post season tournament will be offered. If it is, the HS Varsity Coach will handle all communications with players as well as coach the tournament team. During the summer months, it is expected that the HS Varsity Coach work with the WLC Program Director to offer off season clinic training to HS team players.

Fall Lacrosse Season (September-Nov) – This is coordinated by the HS Varsity Coach, but due to WSHBLA rules, is coached by alternative coaches. The HS Varsity Coach will assist in coaching a WLC younger team during the Fall Season.

Fall Training/Tournament (November/Dec) – The HS Varsity Coach is allowed to coach practices and games for 12 sessions in the months of November and December per the WHSBLA. The HS Varsity will be responsible for coordinating and communicating and coaching these sessions, with the culmination being the Space Needle Shootout tournament.

Exhibit A

Base Compensation

·     An annual salary starting at around $15,000, based upon experience

·     For hours worked at Camps & Clinics, with budget for paying coaches, the coach will be paid at the hourly coach’s rate for WLC

·     Fall Season coaching for the WLC younger teams will be negotiated if applicable, above and beyond the compensation outlined here

·     Benefits—there are no other benefits included at this time

·     Review of compensation will occur after annual evaluation, during annual budgeting process

The Woodinville Boys Lacrosse Club expects that all players, coaches and parents will demonstrate the following values both on and off of the field: 

Good Sportsmanship, Commitment, Respect, Self-discipline, Integrity, Responsibility, Dedication, Positive Attitude 
 

Parent / Guardian Code of Conduct 

●       Parents should support the efforts of the volunteer coaches and of WHSBLA. 

●       Parents should set the right example for your child by always showing good sportsmanship. 

●       Parents will not argue with a coach, referee or official at any WHSBLA event. 

●       Parents use of profanity, drugs, alcohol or tobacco during any WHSBLA event is prohibited. 

●       Any parent who crosses the field barriers during a game risks their child being disqualified from WHSBLA. Parents and spectators are to be situated on the opposite side of the field from the players box (where applicable). 

●       Parents who incur an unsportsmanlike behavior penalty risk their child being disqualified from further participation. 

●       Parents should never voice any complaints or concerns towards coaches, referees or league officials in front of the children. 

●       Understand that your child will be given every opportunity to participate; however, the safety of our athletes is our #1 concern. 

●       Parents should praise your child’s efforts and always offer your support. Please allow your child to play as a child and have fun. 

●       Parents who do not comply with the rules as outlined in BYLW or sports rule package run the risk of expulsion. 
 

Woodinville Lacrosse Player Code of Conduct 

●       Players will try their very best to support their team. 

●       Players will be team players and always put the team first. 

●       Players will stay within the team areas of the sidelines during games. 

●       Players will accept their coaching and be ready to learn and have fun.

●       Players will listen to the coaches and follow the rules of WHSBLA and of the sport.

●       Players will demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off of the field of play and will not be malicious or retaliate with their lacrosse stick. 

●       Players will attend all practices, games, meetings and any other team function on time.

●       Players will show respect towards all coaches, players and referees / officials at all times. 

●       Players will not fight, use foul language or argue with coaches, teammates, or referees / officials. 

●       Players who do not comply with the rules as outlined in WHSBLA or sports rules package run the risk of expulsion
